MAT WAIVER VIRTUAL TRAINING COURSE FOR HACKENSACK MERIDIAN HEALTH PROVIDERS, & ALL PROVIDERS OF NEW JERSEY

VIRTUAL TRAINING COURSE: Will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, 4 pm – 9:30 pm EDT online

This is a Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Waiver Virtual Training course for New Jersey health care professionals with prescribing authority, focused on physicians, physician assistants, certified nurse midwives, and advanced practice nurses that includes 5.5 hours of virtual training at the conference, followed by 4-hours of online training for physicians (or 8-hours of online training for all other specialists) that attendees will complete within 90 days after the conference.

The course fulfills the 8-hours of training required to apply for a waiver to prescribe buprenorphine for treatment of an opioid use disorder. The workshop will include both virtual didactic lectures and virtual breakout groups including discussion of clinical cases. The session will cover core content, mandated by the federal training requirement, as well as information about treating patients with substance use disorders in New Jersey; connecting patients to specialty care and social services; and how to receive mentoring and support. 

Target Audience: Physicians, Physician Assistants, Certified Nurse Midwives, Advanced Practice Nurses

Objectives: At the end of this activity, participants will be able to:

1. Apply for a waiver to prescribe buprenorphine/naloxone to patients with opioid use disorders.

2. Recognize and assess patients that would fit the criteria for office-based buprenorphine/naloxone treatment. 

3. Differentiate the relevant pharmacology of buprenorphine/naloxone, methadone, and extended-release naltrexone.

4. Implement an office-based treatment plan with the appropriate resources to treat patients with opioid use disorders with buprenorphine/naltrexone.  

5. Discuss the psychological and medical comorbidities commonly seen in patients with opioid use disorders.

Upon successful completion of the training, participants will be emailed a certificate of completion, and should retain it in accordance with their relevant licensing board’s regulations. Providers’ Clinical Support System (PCSS) offers 4 Interprofessional Continuing Education Credits for other specialists for the online portion after completion of the virtual training.

To receive full credit, you must be present for the entire virtual training course activity.

All listed health care professionals must complete the Attestation Form, and Outcome Survey/Evaluation to receive a certificate of completion.
