
Diagnosis and Treatment of Substance Use Disorder in Adolescents

This module is a enduring recorded courses on Substance Use Disorder (SUD) in Adolescents. This module is designed to inform New Jersey health care professionals of the risk factors that predispose adolescents to opiate use and the signs and dangers of substance use in adolescents. Additionally, this module will provide information on how to perform assessments of substance use in adolescents, the impact of productive interactions with parents, peers, and school staff, preventative services and treatment, and office based pharmacotherapy for opioid dependence in adolescents.
Target Audience: New Jersey Physicians; Podiatrists; Physician Assistants; Certified Nurse Midwives; Dentists; Advanced Practice Nurses; Social Workers; Psychologists; Marriage & Family Therapists; and Professional Counselors.

- Identify the risk factors that predispose adolescents to opiate use
- Recognize substance use in adolescents and the dangers that are present
- Implement assessments of substance use in adolescents
- Encourage productive interactions with parents, peers, and in school staff
- Engage in preventative services and treatment
- Demonstrate understanding of office based pharmacotherapy for opioid dependence in adolescents
