TOBACCO/NICOTINE DEPENDENCE SCREENING AND TREATMENT

ENDURING WEBINAR: RELEASED May 24, 2023 – END DATE: May 24, 2026

This is an enduring recorded course that will use a standardized, evidence-based substance use disorder (SUD) prevention, treatment, harm reduction, and recovery curriculum to train and inform health care licensees with prescribing authority, in compliance with federal and state guidelines. This enduring course is designed to inform health care professionals with prescribing authority on a comprehensive overview of tobacco dependence.

TARGET AUDIENCE: Physicians; Physician Assistants (PAs); Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs); Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs)

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Develop an understanding of the history of tobacco use and its societal impact
  • Identify brain regions responsible for the neurobiology of tobacco use
  • Recognize risk factors for tobacco use 
  • Illustrate the significant health consequences of tobacco use 
  • Diagnose tobacco use disorder using DSM-5 criteria 
  • Assess level of nicotine dependence 
  • Plan effective strategies for cessation of tobacco 

Available Continuing Medical Education (CME) Credits for Physicians:
2 AOA Category 1-B credits / 2 AMA PRA Category 1 credits™
