This podcast is one of 18 interviews that will provide standardized, comprehensive, easily accessible, evidence-based education on best practices and current laws regarding opioids for professionals throughout the State. This 1 recorded podcast interview focuses on the incidence of substance use disorders (SUDs) in older adults, most commonly abused substances, assessment, and treatment guidelines.
TARGET AUDIENCE: New Jersey Physicians; Podiatrists; Physician Assistants; Certified Nurse Midwives; Dentists; Advanced Practice Nurses; Social Workers; Psychologists; Marriage & Family Therapists; and Professional Counselors.
OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Educate patients and their families on Narcan and its importance
- Identify the most commonly abused substances in the elderly population
- Implement strategies for treating substance use in the elderly in conjunction with their families
