This podcast is one of 18 interviews that will provide standardized, comprehensive, easily accessible, evidence-based education on best practices and current laws regarding opioids for professionals throughout the State. This 1 recorded podcast interview focuses on the incidence of substance use disorders (SUDs) in older adults, most commonly abused substances, assessment, and treatment guidelines.

TARGET AUDIENCE: New Jersey Physicians; Podiatrists; Physician Assistants; Certified Nurse Midwives; Dentists; Advanced Practice Nurses; Social Workers; Psychologists; Marriage & Family Therapists; and Professional Counselors.

OBJECTIVES:  At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Educate patients and their families on Narcan and its importance
  2. Identify the most commonly abused substances in the elderly population
  3. Implement strategies for treating substance use in the elderly in conjunction with their families
