RECORDED OPIOID SAFETY GRAND ROUND: Registration open and course begins August 18th, 2023

Management of Opioid-Induced Hyperalgesia is a recorded opioid safety grand round that will provide standardized, comprehensive, easily accessible, evidence-based education on best practices and current laws regarding opioids for professionals throughout the State. This 1 recorded case study focuses on nociceptive sensitization caused by exposure to opioids, perception of pain, provider-patient communication, and preparations for possible withdrawal.

TARGET AUDIENCE: New Jersey Physicians; Podiatrists; Physician Assistants; Certified Nurse Midwives; Dentists; Advanced Practice Nurses; Social Workers; Psychologists; Marriage & Family Therapists; Professional Counselors; Athletic Trainers; Dentists; and Pharmacists.

OBJECTIVES:  At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize the state of nociceptive sensitization caused by exposure to opioids 
  2. How opioids change the perception of pain
  3. Provider-patient communication for implementing an opioid taper
  4. Preparing the patient for possible withdrawal symptoms and how to avoid it
