Managing Opioid Analgesia in the Setting of a SCS is a recorded opioid safety grand round that will provide standardized, comprehensive, easily accessible, evidence-based education on best practices and current laws regarding opioids for professionals throughout the State. This 1 recorded case study focuses on the indications for cervical and/or lumbar spinal cord stimulation, provider-patient communication for referral for SCS implant evaluation, opioid taper prep, and care and management of SCS.
TARGET AUDIENCE: New Jersey Physicians; Podiatrists; Physician Assistants; Certified Nurse Midwives; Dentists; Advanced Practice Nurses; Social Workers; Psychologists; Marriage & Family Therapists; Professional Counselors; Athletic Trainers; Dentists; and Pharmacists.
OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Identify indications for cervical and/or lumbar spinal cord stimulation
- Utilize provider-patient communication for referral for SCS implant evaluation
- Prepare patients for potential opioid taper
- Assess care and management of the patient with a SCS
