Note: This is not registration for the live webinar. This is registration for the enduring recorded course.

RECORDED OPIOID SAFETY GRAND ROUND: Registration opens and course begins July 1, 2024

Management of the False Positive UDS is a recorded opioid safety grand round that will provide standardized, comprehensive, easily accessible, evidence-based education on best practices and current laws regarding opioids for professionals throughout the State. This 1 RECORDED case study focuses on urine drug screen (UDS) tests associated with chronic pain management, the factors that put chronic pain patients as persons at risk of opioid use disorder, UDS monitoring for safe practice management, and how to interpret UDS aberrancy for false negative UDS s/p low opioid dosing, false positives, and improper test handling.

Objectives: As a result of participation in this course, members of the interprofessional team will improve their ability to:

1. Recognize the legal and clinical importance of urine drug screen (UDS) tests associated with chronic pain management. Learner’s will recognize interprofessional responsibility and accountability for urine drug screen monitoring.

2. Evaluate all chronic pain patients as persons at risk of opioid use disorder. Learner’s will understand that all persons with chronic pain are at risk of developing an opioid use disorder.

3. Provide adequate UDS monitoring for safe practice management. Learner’s will establish and follow practice policy for UDS monitoring that correlates with minimum NJ state compliance.

4. Interpret UDS aberrancy for false negative UDS s/p low opioid dosing, false positives, and improper test handling. Learner’s will avoid stigmatizing positive UDS results and recognize the need for confirmation and /or further assessment of abnormal UDS based on potential for false positives.
