Case 4: Pseudoaddiction vs Undertreated Chronic Pain from AVN- Enduring Recorded

Pseudoaddiction vs. Undertreated Chronic Pain from AVN is a recorded opioid safety grand round that will provide standardized, comprehensive, easily accessible, evidence-based education on best practices and current laws regarding opioids for professionals throughout the State. This case study focuses on the development of avascular necrosis, pseudoaddiction versus undertreated pain, how to interpret subjective pain symptoms into appropriate types of pain, and how to identify different types of pain and how to treat them.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES: As a result of participation in this course, members of the interprofessional team will improve their ability to:
1. Assess the development of avascular necrosis and its role in chronic pain. As pertaining to this case, learners will gain understanding of the clinical presentation of avascular necrosis.
2. Differentiate pseudoaddiction from the presentation of undertreated pain. Learners will be able to adjust the patient’s plan of care to fit their needs.
3. Interpret subjective pain symptoms into appropriate types of pain. Learners will listen to the patient’s pain complaints and identify which type of pain is the best fit.
4. Identify different types of pain and associated treatments for each.
