Illustrative Enamel Brooches Workshop

Proposal/Class Description:

In this one-day, six-hour workshop, students will learn how to fuse vitreous enamel to copper to create an illustrative glass brooch on copper. This is open for all students of any level, including beginner with no prior metals or enameling experience. The workshop will teach students the very basics of fusing and introduce beginner level enameling layering processes such as wet-packing, etching, sugar firing, and graphite drawing/firing. Students will be able to complete at least one enamel brooch. 

Goals:

BY THE END OF THIS WORKSHOP, STUDENTS WILL:

  • Develop a deeper understanding of the enameling process, with new knowledge over the basics of enamel fusing and layering.
  • Develop a familiarity with a small range of tools common to the Enameling and Metalsmithing field, specific to the Enameling process at a beginner level, and be able to apply this to create a pendant.
  • Be able to safely and efficiently demonstrate their understanding of the basic enamel fusing process.
