Music Intro to Brazilian Samba and Choro

Join Regional Samaúma and learn how to play rhythmic and/or melodic elements specific to the Brasilian music styles of Samba, Maxixe, and Choro on on your chosen/preferred instrument (woodwinds/brass/percussion/voice/piano, cavaquinho, or guitar .  Attendees will learn about the history shaping these Brasilian musical styles as well as what rhythmic and melodic components comprising each style. Further discussion of how music elements function in each of these music styles will support participants in exploring how to extract elements to structure improvisational and songwriting experiences within music therapy contexts. Exploration of how to integrate self-reflective practices related to cultural humility when using Brasilian music styles in music therapy clinical practice will be discussed.
